Rosemary Roasted Pork with Maple Apple Sauce

Image
Rosemary Roasted Pork with Maple Apple Sauce Delicious leftovers This is a Donna Hay recipe and like all of her recipes it's styled beautifully and is beautifully simple not requiring a wedding guest list sized amount of ingredients. In truth this could serve 4-6 people depending on how hungry they were but I would suggest making this for 2-3 people because of the delicious leftovers. In this case, the pork actually somehow becomes _more _tender the day after and when sliced paper thinly, it is absolutely mouth watering on buttered fresh bread with a generous dollop of the apple sauce. Or you can pop it on top of a bowl of ramen or noodle soup. Your tastebuds will indeed be thankful the next day for this foresight. Mmm crispy crackling... 1.8 kg pork loin 1/4 cup rosemary 2 tablespoons sea salt flakes (like Maldon) olive oil, for drizzling Step 1 - If you have time the night before, leave the pork skin uncovered in the fridge (cover the loin though) so that it can dry out as much ...

EASY SLOW COOKER CHILI-LIME MEXICAN SHREDDED BEEF

Image
EASY SLOW COOKER CHILI-LIME MEXICAN SHREDDED BEEF Easy Slow Cooker recipes are always a favorite. The easy chili-lime shredded beef is great plain, or for tacos, burritos, quesadillas, enchiladas….you see where I’m going here? I love versatile slow cooker meats. I can throw it in the crock in the morning and then I have a whole 8 hours before I have to actually decide what we’re going to have for dinner. Leftovers? Guess you’ve got a completely different dinner for tomorrow night. I do love the slow cooker. In fact, I wrote a whole cookbook of easy prep recipes using whole, real ingredients. Soda walks the line on being a real ingredient, but I do love the way that soda flavors and tenderizes beef. It’s amazing what it does really. The sugar and carbonation break down that tough roast and produce a tender, moist, and tasty shredded beef. It’s easy, and totally delicious. An easy slow cooker beef for use in tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and more! Ingredients 1 (2 to 3 pound) beef chuck ...

FRIED HONEY BANANAS

Image
FRIED HONEY BANANAS To quote a friend: I do not eat desserts. Except when I do. Accurate. Perhaps too accurate. In my never-eat-dessert-unless-it-is-my-birthday (which ps: is today) world, I have been eating these for “dessert” every night all week. The only ingredients are banana, honey, olive oil, and cinnamon. All health beneficial and crispy-yummy. They are amazing by themselves, or give a nice upgrade sprinkled over french toast. INGREDIENTS 1 banana, sliced 1 tablespoon honey Cinnamon Olive oil or coconut oil INSTRUCTIONS Lightly drizzle oil in a skillet over medium heat. Arrange banana slices in pan and cook for 1-2 minutes on each side. Meanwhile, whisk together honey and 1 tablespoon of water. Remove pan from heat and pour honey mixture over banana. Allow to cool and sprinkle with cinnamon. Recipe Source: rachelschultz.com

garlicky party bread with cheese and herbs

Image
garlicky party bread with cheese and herbs You could pretty confidently argue that you’ve happened upon a lucky series of life choices when you get to spend half an hour on a Wednesday morning at Whole Foods debating what you’d like to put on your party bread in addition to butter and cheese. There was so much to consider! I considered rarebit-ing it, with a boiled mess of butter, beer, mustard powder, paprika, cayenne, Worcestershire and a scattering of cheddar that I might dream about tonight. I wondered if we ought to go French, with gruyere, shallots and herbes de provence or style it like an American baked potato, with chives and bacon, sour cream and cheese. And then I realized that I’ve never once covered garlic bread on this site and was suddenly filled with purpose and couldn’t wait to get home and start playing in the kitchen. This is definitely a flexible recipe; you can use any cheese and herbs you’d like, or seasonings. (I mentioned a few ideas that inspired me in the post...

THE BEST CLASSIC CANADIAN BUTTER TARTS

Image
THE BEST CLASSIC CANADIAN BUTTER TARTS The Best Classic Canadian Butter Tarts. There’s a reason why we have a national obsession with these sweet, buttery, caramel-y tarts. I’ve sampled them in many places across the country and this thick pastry version is my favourite. Don’t do the raisin debate, just leave them out if they are not your thing. Everyone should be able to enjoy them as they like them. Butter tarts are one of my all time favorite sweet treats and have been for many years. I don’t often make them because, to be absolutely frank, I would not rest until I had eaten all of them! Canadians love their butter tarts and I have had some fine examples in other parts of the country. I think the nod goes to Quebec for the best I’ve had though. I can’t tell you the numbers of these I’ve eaten over the years, driving along the north shore of the St. Lawrence River and stopping into little bakeries along the way to sample the local versions of this perfect little pastry. Here is my fa...
